Stefan Bellof Tribute 2013

Stefan Bellof was one of the most promising race drivers of the 1980’s. He already impressed at a young age and continued to do so in Formula One until his untimely death driving a Group C 1000 km race at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) on September 1st, 1985. But in 1983, during qualifying for the 1000 KM Rennen at the Nürburgring Nordschleife he set a stunning lap record of 6:11.13 that still stands today.

At the 2013 German Oldtimer Grand Prix a special tribute was organised, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this lap record and to honor Stefan’s life and successes. His former team mate Derek Bell drove their Rothmans Porsche 956 #007 one more time on this legendary race track, and together with Stefan’s former fiancée, his father, brother and best friend they unveiled the new name for a section of the Nordschleife right after Pflanzgarten: Stefan Bellof S Kurve. An impressive event and we had a long chat with Stefan’s father Georg afterwards.
